Godzilla Minus Zero' Named Centerpiece of Tokyo Film Festival as 'Sukiyaki' Opens, 'Colony' Closes

“Godzilla Minus Zero” will serve as the centerpiece of the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, with Zeze Takahisa’s music drama “Sukiyaki” set to open and Yeon Sang-ho’s zombie thriller “Colony” scheduled to close. Yamazaki Takashi returns as director, having also written and overseen visual effects, following “Godzilla Minus One,” which won the Academy Award for best visual effects at the 96th Oscars. Starring Kamiki Ryunosuke and Hamabe Minami, “Godzilla Minus Zero” is Japan’s first feature filmed for Imax. Toho releases it on Nov. 3. “Sukiyaki” recounts the making of the 1963 song topping Billboard for three consecutive weeks, released by Toho on Dec. 25. “Colony,” distributed by Gaga in Japan in 2027, follows Professor Se Jeong in a Seoul skyscraper during a bioterror attack.
