Google Maps will show 'Lake America' in US, not 'Lake Ontario'

Google Maps will label “Lake Ontario” as “Lake America” for U.S. users, after the change was made in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the smallest of the five Great Lakes, according to Google. The move ties to a wider U.S.-Canada trade dispute that has triggered reciprocal tariffs on billions of dollars in goods. Google said the name change is based on the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which governs official U.S. maps. Canadians will still see “Lake Ontario,” and users outside the U.S. and Canada may see both names. Canadian and U.S. leaders criticized the decision.
