GOP Rep. Tom Kean, missing from Congress for months, set to return on June 30

Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. of New Jersey is set to return to Congress on June 30 after being away since March, his spokesperson said. Harrison Neely told CBS News that Kean is “eager to return” to resume an in-person schedule. Kean’s location since he last voted on March 5 has not been disclosed, and he previously said in late April he was addressing a personal medical issue. In a June 2 statement released by his campaign, he said he was focused on recovery and would be fully transparent about his condition when transitioning from virtual to in-person work. The announcement came hours before polls closed in New Jersey’s GOP primary for his seat, where he ran unopposed, having missed more than 130 votes. House Speaker Mike Johnson said he had spoken with Kean and knew of the health issue but gave no details.
