India, US discuss powering AI economy through energy, digital infrastructure on UNGA sidelines

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, India and the United States discussed how to power the AI economy through energy and digital infrastructure. The Consulate General of India in New York, working with ReNew and the U.S.-India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF), hosted a roundtable titled “US India Partnership: Powering the AI Economy,” with more than 40 participants from industry, academia, investment, government and civil society. Among those speaking were India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi and USISPF President and CEO Mukesh Aghi, as well as ReNew Chairman Sumant Sinha and co-founder Vaishali Nigam Sinha. The session covered scaling AI and data center investment across the US-India corridor, ensuring grid readiness, and mobilizing blended capital. A report, “Powering the AI Age: India’s Next Energy Export Opportunity,” was also launched.
