Maine High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Sep. 8

Saco (Maine) Thornton Academy is once again at the top of the initial 2026 Maine high school football Top 25 rankings, beginning the campaign 1-0 as it applies a Massey Ratings model. The defending MPA Class A state champions opened with a 56-0 rout of Scarborough. Last season, Thornton Academy finished No. 1 in Class A, winning the title 28-0 over Portland after avenging a previous championship loss to the Bulldogs. The win also marked head coach Kevin Kezal’s 200th career victory. Up next, Thornton Academy travels to play No. 7 South Portland. Bonny Eagle ranks second after a 14-7 win over South Portland, and Portland is third after beating Lewiston 40-14.
