More women likely to come forward, says detective who led Russell Brand investigation

Detective Supt Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police said he expects more women to come forward after Russell Brand was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. Speaking after the jury’s decision at Southwark Crown Court, Furphy said he hoped other alleged victims would gain “courage” and “confidence” from the verdicts. Brand, 51, was convicted on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault by a jury of eight men and four women, and was acquitted of two counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. The Met also confirmed an investigation is ongoing over further rape allegations made by two women.
