A new Kentucky law is now in effect regarding when motorists must stop for school buses as the school year begins. Under the rule, if a school bus stops to pick up or drop off children with its stop lights and stop arm activated, all vehicles approaching must stop, including on four-lane roads. The requirement does not apply to vehicles approaching from the opposite direction if the road is divided by an elevated barrier or an unpaved median. The law also addresses enforcement: if a violation is observed but the driver’s identity cannot be determined, fines or penalties may be imposed on the person in whose name the vehicle is registered or leased.
