President Donald Trump told South Florida rally-goers Friday that U.S. warships returning from the Iran conflict could stop in Cuba, a renewed idea tied to a question from the crowd days before midterm elections. Trump said the ships would pass Cuba “and then we’re going to send” Secretary of State Marco Rubio “in to finish up the deal,” after an earlier suggestion earlier this year. The remarks echoed Trump’s long-argued openness to intervention, and were given added relevance after the administration announced criminal charges against Cuba’s former leader, Raúl Castro. Separately, Trump said he ordered the Justice Department to sue to block certification of Alaska’s U.S. Senate race if Republican Dan Sullivan loses.
