OPINION | Lincoln School District Outdoor Program a rising star | Arkansas Democrat Gazette

The Lincoln School District Outdoor Program has grown from a simple extracurricular activity into a respected program that competes at state and national levels in archery, air rifle, trap shooting, and fishing. Students learn responsibility, discipline, leadership, and teamwork as they train and travel to events across Arkansas. The four teams routinely compete against top programs in the nation, with several members earning opportunities to represent Lincoln and the Northwest Arkansas community on state and national stages. Beyond competition, the program offers a sense of belonging and personal growth for students who might not connect with traditional sports.

Funding efforts culminated at the Lincoln Outdoor Banquet and Silent Auction on May 30, raising money to support student participation and future outdoor education expansions, including rock climbing next year. The event showcased community support for the program and its mission beyond competition. Coaches, volunteers, and supporters say the costs for travel, equipment, safety, and entry fees are substantial, and continued donations are appreciated.
