Oxfordshire SEND school transport delays 'affecting hundreds'

Delays in arranging special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) transport to and from school are “affecting hundreds of families”, according to Claire Brenner of the Oxfordshire SEND Parent Action Group. She said the situation is “worse than ever” for parents trying to secure transport in time for the new school year. Local authorities are legally required to arrange funded transport for many SEND children under education, health and care plans. Oxfordshire County Council acknowledged some delays for applications submitted after its deadline and said it is aware of an “issue that needs to be resolved”. Brenner added that some families have had to give up work to drive their children and that others could not start school on time due to lack of transport.
