Parties talk taxes, trade war and parental leave on Day 2 of Quebec election campaign

Day 2 of Quebec’s election campaign focused on taxes, parental leave and the U.S. trade war, as parties sharpen their messages ahead of the Oct. 5 vote. Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon promised to cut taxes for Quebec businesses by 20% in his first term, announcing it at the site of the canceled Northvolt electric battery plant. Quebec Liberal leader Charles Millard highlighted the ongoing trade dispute and said he would reduce the share of Quebec exports going to the United States by at least 15% by diversifying markets. Coalition Avenir Québec leader Christine Fréchette proposed expanding Quebec’s parental insurance plan with two additional weeks for fathers, plus more flexibility and bereavement leave.
