Paso City Council poised to remove Flock cameras citywide

El Paso City Council is set to vote Tuesday, Sept. 15 on two proposals that would remove Flock cameras citywide and prevent the city from entering additional contracts for Flock or other automated license plate reader (ALPR) systems. The move follows a Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directive ordering state agencies to stop funding Flock cameras, after which the El Paso Police Department said the change effectively ended their use locally. One proposal would require removal of all ALPRs within 60 days, regardless of ownership. The second would block new or renewed ALPR contracts with Flock Safety and other providers, with exemptions for handheld readers, vehicle-mounted systems, and parking or access/toll-focused technology.
