Places that have been renamed during Trump's second term

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that renaming Lake Ontario as “Lake America” is under “serious consideration,” amid an ongoing trade war with Canada. In a post on Truth Social, Trump offered few details but argued the U.S. doesn’t “expect to be doing much business with Ontario any longer.” Ontario Premier Doug Ford dismissed the idea as “a lot of rhetoric” in comments to CNN. The proposal would follow multiple renaming moves since Trump began a second term in January 2025, including changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, Denali to Mount McKinley, and reverting Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg.
