President Donald Trump has outlined to FIFA a plan for the United States to host another men’s World Cup, building on the momentum of the 2026 tournament that ends this Sunday in New Jersey with Spain playing Argentina. Trump said he wants FIFA to announce the U.S. as hosts “ASAP” and suggested that FIFA name a second country at the same time, following his idea that it could reduce public backlash and shock. He indicated the U.S. previously hosted the 1994 World Cup and is ready to be selected again. FIFA has already set the next two events: the 2030 tournament across Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with one match each also scheduled in Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay for the centenary, followed by Saudi Arabia for 2034. U.S. interest in bidding for 2038 was confirmed by Andrew Giuliani, though Mexico and Canada are unclear.
