What is the FIFA Peace Prize? Explaining the award created for Trump
United States President Donald Trump received the inaugural “FIFA Peace Prize” during the World Cup draw in December 2025, an award FIFA created after he was not given the Nobel Peace Prize by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in October 2025. FIFA announced the prize weeks later, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., FIFA President Gianni Infantino personally presented Trump with the trophy, certificate and a medal at the draw ceremony. Infantino praised Trump’s efforts, framing them as actions leading to peace. Shortly afterward, FairSquare, a London-based international human-rights group, filed an eight-page complaint with FIFA’s ethics committee, citing a potential breach of political neutrality because the award was given to a sitting political leader. The decision drew condemnation worldwide.
