RAF Coningsby prepares for threats at home and abroad

RAF Coningsby, a front-line base in Lincolnshire and one of two UK quick reaction alert stations, is expanding training to match evolving threats at home and abroad. The changes include enhanced force protection instruction covering combat first aid, additional firearms drills and awareness of chemical, nuclear and biological hazards. Wing Commander Ian Hart, who commands No. 29 Squadron, said the updated posture reflects how threats can arrive “very, very easily” and stresses readiness everywhere, “all of the time.” Coningsby is also the first RAF station in the UK to adopt Module 2 Individual Readiness Training as its minimum standard.
