Report: Zach Lahn's Kansas school owes family $4.5 million

Wonder, a Kansas private school associated with Iowa Republican gubernatorial nominee Zach Lahn, owes the Lahn family about $4.5 million, according to public records cited in a report. In a six-year span, the school’s expenses exceeded revenue in five of six years, leaving it owing more than it owned. Early funding helped the nonprofit cover deficits, including $615,000 in personal loans from Lahn and his wife, Annie, in 2021 and 2022. By 2025, the couple was each listed by the school’s most recent IRS Form 990 filed in May as owed $2.26 million. Lahn did not explain the debt when asked, and his campaign declined interviews.
