Sources: Marcus Bignot agrees Birmingham City coach deal
Marcus Bignot has agreed a deal to become Birmingham City’s new Under-18s coach, sources told Football Insider. The 51-year-old former right-back is set to leave his assistant manager role at Swindon Town, which he stepped out of in May. The move would also mark a return to a club where he previously managed Birmingham City Women for several years. The appointment follows Birmingham’s Friday announcement that Scott Sellars has been hired as their new “senior pathway to professional and under-21s coach.” Sources say Bignot will take an Under-18s lead academy role. He previously worked as an assistant for England’s U18 and U19 teams from 2019 to 2021 and held senior coaching roles at Cheltenham Town and Shrewsbury Town afterward. His playing career included stints at QPR and Millwall, finishing at Brackley, and he later expressed interest in progressing to the highest levels. The article also notes Birmingham may consider him as it develops its talent pathway.
