Spain coach, Real Madrid president attend funeral of Tenerife's Jesús de Miguel

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez attended the funeral of Jesús de Miguel in Navahermosa, a town of about 3,000 people in central Spain. De Miguel, 30, died Tuesday after suffering cardiac arrest following an on-field collision with an opposing goalkeeper during a second-division match. His Tenerife teammates travelled from the Canary Islands, and hundreds of mourners gathered, including the president of the Spanish soccer federation. The funeral included a mass and burial at the local cemetery. Spain’s National Police opened an investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter, reviewing whether the challenge by Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono went beyond normal play.
