Switzerland takes on Colombia in Vancouver's last hurrah at World Cup
Switzerland will play Colombia in Vancouver’s last World Cup match at BC Place, marking the city’s seventh and final game of the tournament. The Round of 16 contest starts at 1 p.m. as fans march toward the stadium from Jonathan Rogers Park at 9:45 a.m., while Swiss supporters leave the Blarney Stone Pub at 11 a.m., after making BC Place their base during three consecutive matches. Vancouver’s World Cup momentum has included large downtown demonstrations and crowds along Granville Street, alongside the FIFA Fan Festival in East Vancouver and frequent PNE amphitheatre gatherings. Mayor Ken Sim said the event can drive future visitors, investment, and business opportunities, though economic effects may take months or years to measure. Reported hosting costs could reach $729 million, shared by the city, province, and federal government, with $100 million for security and $116 million from Sport Canada.
