Trump's former campaign manager on GOP ahead of midterms: 'It's ugly'
Bill Stepien, former campaign manager for President Trump, warned that Republican fortunes look “ugly” ahead of the midterms, pointing to growing corruption allegations and recent administration turmoil. Speaking to CNN’s Abby Phillip, Stepien said the GOP’s weak polling has been shaped by headlines including the ouster of U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle. He referenced reports from The Wall Street Journal alleging she sought help paying a $100,000 credit card bill before her confirmation hearing, saying voters are asking “what’s changed” from the earlier “drain the swamp” message. Polling highlighted corruption as a top issue: a CNBC survey put it at 36% for registered voters, while a Fox News poll found 90% of voters concerned. The generic ballot has Democrats ahead by 7.9 points, according to Decision Desk HQ, with House odds at 79% and Senate control at 57%.
