U.S. President Donald Trump said he never spoke with FIFA chief Gianni Infantino about a FIFA plan—now abandoned—to sell stakes in its events to outside investors. Trump told reporters on Friday, hours before Infantino announced the proposal would not proceed. The plan was part of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which FIFA had said would create a subsidiary valued at an estimated $20bn. Through it, external investors would be offered minority stakes in tournaments such as the World Cup. A firm called Thrive Eternal, led by Joshua Kushner (brother of Jared Kushner’s son-in-law), was set to lead the investor group. The proposal was dropped after backlash from UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation.
