Why the NCAA is fighting back against a U.S. District Court's ruling

The NCAA says it will appeal a Colorado federal judge’s decision that temporarily granted a fifth year of eligibility to college athletes from the high school class of 2022. In a memo dated Saturday, Aug. 1, NCAA Chief Legal Officer Scott Bearby called the ruling “egregiously wrong,” arguing it certified a nationwide class and issued broad injunctive relief without witness testimony or even a hearing. Bearby also said one federal court cannot override another court’s prior decision, referring to the “House injunction” tied to roster limits and revenue sharing. Four unnamed FBS general managers said they’re reviewing possible roster changes after the 2025 season.
