Young voter turnout could be pivotal in this year's midterms

Signs point to Gen Z showing up at the polls in unusually high numbers in this year’s midterms, with experts calling 18–29-year-olds a key group to watch. Alberto Medina, communications manager at Tufts University’s Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, said young voters’ engagement is driven by a personal sense of stake in changes that improve their lives and communities. An Alliance for Youth Power PAC and YouGov survey found more than 80% of voters age 18–29 “probably” or “definitely” plan to vote in eight battleground states, including Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio and others. Nearly 50 million Americans aged 18–29 are eligible in November.
