10. Cookies & Tracking (Website)

Our website uses minimal cookies for essential functionality only (session management). We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies on www.xcruzo.com.

We run our own first-party analytics — no third party receives this data and we never sell it. To count returning visits we store a random identifier in your browser's local storage; it contains no name, email or account information. Alongside it we record the pages viewed, your approximate location (country, region and city — derived from your network address, which we do not store), device type, referring site, and any search terms you enter. This website-analytics data is kept for up to 365 days and is then deleted automatically. We may keep specific records beyond that period only where it is necessary to investigate a security incident or suspected abuse of the Service, to comply with a legal obligation, or to establish or defend a legal claim — and in each case only for as long as that purpose requires, after which the records are deleted. Clearing your browser storage removes the identifier and starts a new one.

10.1 Anonymous VIN Searches (No Account)

You can look up a VIN on our website without creating an account or signing in. That search is anonymous: it is not recorded under any account, and we do not create an account for you. If you register later, we do not go back and attach your earlier anonymous searches to your new account.

For each anonymous search we record the VIN you entered, the time of the search, and the same approximate location described above (country, region and city, derived from your network address, which we do not store).

To stop automated scraping and keep the free search available to real visitors, we also keep short-lived abuse-prevention counters: a one-way cryptographic hash of your network address, a random browser session identifier, and a count of how many different VINs were searched in a short period. The hash cannot be reversed to recover your address, and the address itself is never stored. These counters expire automatically within hours.

We use anonymous VIN searches to produce aggregate statistics about vehicle demand — for example, how many searches a particular model and year received in a metropolitan area in a given month. These aggregates describe vehicles, not people. We do not build a profile of you from them, and we never sell personal information.
