Air India struggles to win back India-UK passengers after fatal 2025 crash
xCruzo Brief
Air India is struggling to win back passengers on the UK–India route after a fatal crash in Ahmedabad last summer that killed 260 people. The Independent cites traveler accounts and exclusive Cirium data showing demand falling after the accident reversed earlier growth. From January to May 2025, Air India carried 18% to 32% more passengers per month than in the same months of 2024, but performance deteriorated from August through December. In August, it carried 85,024 flyers versus 96,576 a year earlier; September fell from 100,559 to 81,291. Even as seat capacity declined only 4% year-on-year in August and September, passenger numbers dropped 11% and 19%.
