'aircraft mishap' at San Diego Marine base, pilot ejected

A Marine Corps Air Station Miramar incident on Friday sent heavy smoke over the San Diego base after an F-35B mishap on a flight line, according to FOX 5/KUSI. Emergency personnel responded around 10 a.m. after officials confirmed the aircraft suffered a “Class A” mishap—defined as a severe accident involving death, permanent disability, loss of the aircraft, or at least $2.5 million in equipment damage. The pilot ejected and was recovered, and officials said he had injuries described as not life-threatening. The F-35B was assigned to 3rd Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 11. Investigators are still looking into what happened.
