Another airline shuts down after losing license, cancels flights
Another airline theme is emerging in 2026 as operators lose airworthiness approvals and cancel flights after being found to no longer hold a valid operating license. In Turkey, Swiss outlet ch-aviation reported that Port Aviation—locally known as Port Havacılık—no longer has an active air operator’s certificate (AOC). The private aviation and ground-handling firm, founded in 2014, previously ran charter, corporate and private flights out of Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport (ISL), before the airport shifted exclusively to private aviation after Istanbul Airport (IST) completed work in 2019. Port Havacılık has not commented publicly, leaving unclear whether the AOC was suspended or revoked and whether the issue is financial or tied to safety oversight. Similar 2026 shutdown cases cited include Spirit Airlines, Magnicharters, European Cargo, and others.
