Manchester Airport (MAN) hosted an unusual sight Sunday: two Boeing 747s parked side by side, a scene not seen for years. The pair came after a midair emergency on Lufthansa flight LH470 forced a diversion en route to Toronto, Canada. One 747-400 arrived Saturday from Frankfurt International (FRA) with 371 passengers, and the next day Lufthansa dispatched a replacement aircraft of the same type. While one tail number, D-ABVY, remained on the ground in the UK, D-ABVW completed the trip to Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ), according to Flightradar24. The Aviation Herald reported that at about 33,000 feet, roughly 180 nautical miles north of Manchester, passengers reported burning smells and smoke, followed by an emergency declaration and squawk 7700.
