Russia's New Geran-5 Jet Drone Slips Past Ukraine's Air Defences, Only 60% Intercepted

Ukraine’s interception rate is around 60% against Russia’s new jet-powered drone Geran-5, Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Col. Yuriy Ihnat said in a Sept. 14 interview, down from roughly 95% against other drone types. The Geran-5’s cylindrical body and straight wings make it more missile-like than typical long-range drones. Russian sources claim it can fly up to 1,000 km, reach about 6,000 meters, and hit speeds near 600 km/h, aided by anti-jamming technology. Ihnat said that since Russia began using Geran-5 in August, Ukraine has relied more on fighter jets to shoot it down directly.
