British Airways flight to UK declares mid-air emergency over 'medical' incident

A British Airways flight from Larnaca, Cyprus to London Heathrow declared a mid-air emergency over a “medical” incident and was diverted to Luxembourg. Flight BA711 departed shortly before 7 a.m. EEST (5 a.m. BST) and, while cruising at 34,000 feet after entering French airspace, the crew transmitted squawk 7700 shortly afterward, an international general emergency code, according to flight-tracking data. The crew initiated an immediate descent and requested diversion to the nearest airport that could accommodate the aircraft. AirLive reported the incident as a medical emergency. The Airbus A321neo landed in Luxembourg around 10 a.m. CEST (9 a.m. BST) and later continued to Heathrow at 12.50 p.m. CEST, arriving at 12.51 p.m. BST.
