British fighters scrambled six times against Russia in 2025
British fighters flew Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) scrambles six times against Russia in 2025, according to figures released by the UK Ministry of Defence. The data, provided in a written parliamentary answer from defense minister Louise Sandher-Jones on 2 July, responds to a query about how many QRA launches were recorded from RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Coningsby in each month of 2025 and 2026. In 2025, launches occurred on one day in January, two in April, one in August, and two in September, with none recorded in the remaining eight months. In 2026, launches took place on one day each in January, April and May, with no launches in February, March or June, covering the period up to end of June. QRA Typhoons are kept at readiness around the clock at the two stations and can be supported by Voyager tankers from RAF Brize Norton.
