Business: 'We will produce many Ugandan pilots' -- Uganda Air
xCruzo Brief
Uganda Airlines CEO Girma Wake says the carrier is working to “produce a lot of Ugandan pilots,” pairing recruitment with a pipeline to train graduates directly. Speaking Oct. 29 in Accra, Ghana, Wake said he is working with Soroti (East African Civil Aviation Academy) to attract new students and that he will take the graduates and train them himself. The announcement builds on recent progress for the airline’s own talent, highlighted by Captain Rita Nasirumbi, Uganda Airlines’ first female captain. She became captain in October and now commands the airline’s CRJ900 regional aircraft, switching to the left seat.
