California In-N-Out doubles as haven for aviation nuts

A promise of jet-spotting combined with an In-N-Out Double-Double pulled a large crowd of aviation enthusiasts to Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday. The gathering was Cranky Dorkfest, an annual, freewheeling event that brings aviation fans, photographers and industry insiders to the LAX area for planes, people-watching and fast food. Launched in 2011 as a small meet-up for aviation photographers and bloggers, it has since expanded to a bigger group of “aviation obsessives,” enough that even the organizers said they’re a little nervous. The main event ran 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a park across the street south of the In-N-Out at 9149 S Sepulveda Blvd.
