Chinese Airliner Crashes With 132 Aboard in Country's South

A China Eastern Boeing 737-800 carrying 132 people crashed on Monday in a remote mountainous area of southern China, officials said, triggering a large forest fire visible from space. Communication with the flight was lost for more than 18 hours, and authorities had not confirmed the fate of passengers and crew. The Civil Aviation Administration of China said the aircraft, China Eastern Flight 5735, was near Wuzhou in Guangxi while flying from Kunming to Guangzhou. FlightRadar24 data cited steep, fast dives around 2:20 p.m. local time and the last transmission 96 seconds into the fall. Hundreds of rescuers were deployed.
