Close call at Boston's Logan Airport as 2 flights come within 300 feet of each other
Close call at Boston's Logan Airport as 2 flights come within 300 feet of each other reports an FAA investigation into a runway-incident near miss at Boston Logan over the weekend. The FAA said an American Airlines flight was cleared for takeoff around 11:30 a.m. Saturday on the same runway where a Delta flight was landing. According to CBS News senior transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave, the jets were estimated to be about 300 feet apart. CBS Boston reported that Delta pilots saw the situation in time to abort the landing and pull up, avoiding any contact. The Delta flight from Dallas was able to land on its second attempt without issues, and no one was hurt. The airline said the Delta aircraft had 129 passengers and six crew members, and the American flight was bound for Charlotte, North Carolina. An audio recording has raised questions about whether controllers lost track of the American aircraft.
