Colorado's Front Range shaped Peter Heller's novel 'The Dog Stars.' Now it's a Ridley Scott film.

Ridley Scott is bringing Peter Heller’s post-apocalyptic novel The Dog Stars to the big screen, with Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce starring. The film opened in theaters Friday, following a story centered on Hig, a narrator living after a disease wiped out 99% of humanity. Much of the action is set along Colorado’s Front Range at Erie Municipal Airport, where Hig pilots a 1956 Cessna 182—Heller even keeps the same plane there, with the same paint, tail number and the name “the Beast.” Heller said climate change and habitat loss inform the novel even without an agenda.
