A U.S. Air Force F-16 crashed during a routine training mission in rural Michigan on Thursday, according to the military. The pilot ejected safely and survived, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, a spokesperson from the 149th Fighter Wing told The Associated Press. The pilot’s identity and condition were not released. The aircraft had flown from Texas and was participating in training at a National Guard facility in Alpena, about 305 kilometers north of Detroit, as part of a group of F-16s from Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland. The cause was not immediately known and an investigation was underway. The Air Force has recorded at least 14 Class A mishaps involving the F-16 since 2000.
