A report by The Telegraph, citing new details from the 2016 FIFA Ethics Committee investigation into Gianni Infantino, says complaints were filed by senior FIFA officials within months of his election as president on 26 February 2016. The newspaper alleges Infantino accepted seats on private jets linked to Vladimir Putin’s government and the Emir of Qatar, and that he converted an invitation to meet Pope Francis into a private trip for his elderly mother. It also claims he refused to sign a salary contract of two million Swiss francs, calling it “insulting.” The investigation, led by Vanessa Allard, cleared him of seven charges.
