Drone nearly hits United plane landing in Newark, pilot says—an incident involving an unmanned aerial vehicle nearly collided with a United Airlines Boeing 737 during approach to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The flight crew reported seeing the circular drone, about three feet wide, roughly 100 feet below them, according to FAA audio reviewed by CNN. The event occurred on Friday, with the aircraft arriving from Key West, Florida, around 5:30 p.m. ET after being on approach at about 5:20 p.m. ET. United said 106 passengers and five crew members exited normally at the gate. The FAA said it is investigating the incident. A second United Express flight, operated by GoJet Airlines, also reported seeing a drone at about 2,000 feet. Separately, the FAA says there were 319 pilot reports through March, while collisions remain rare.
