FAA Awards $1.8B For U.S. Airport Infrastructure Upgrades | Aviation Week
The FAA awarded nearly $1.8 billion in airport infrastructure grants to U.S. airports across 46 states, aiming to upgrade safety and capacity nationwide. The awards were announced by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and combine Airport Improvement Program grants with Airport Infrastructure Grant funding created under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Among the largest projects, Denver International Airport received $88.8 million for pavement work, while Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field was awarded $74 million for runway rehabilitation and apron expansion. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will receive $62.4 million for runway and lighting rehabilitation, and Houston Hobby Airport secured $62.2 million for runway construction. Other allocations include $47.6 million for JFK taxiway projects and an aircraft rescue and firefighting building, plus $36 million for Orlando International terminal, taxiway and lighting rehabilitation. Additional passenger-focused grants were directed to Portland International ($12.3 million) and New Orleans Louis Armstrong ($6.8 million) for a terminal people mover, among others.
