FAA investigates reported drone strike on JetBlue flight landing at JFK

The FAA is investigating a reported drone strike involving JetBlue Flight 948 during its landing approach to New York’s JFK. In a statement posted to X, the agency said the pilot reported hitting the drone at about 3,000 feet while on final approach around 7:15 a.m. JetBlue’s post-flight inspection reportedly found no damage to the aircraft, and the FAA said it is conducting an investigation while referring flight-specific questions to the airline. JetBlue did not provide additional information immediately. The report follows earlier FAA warnings after United Airlines crew members spotted a drone while approaching Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday night, though that flight also landed safely. While the FAA says operating drones around airplanes, helicopters and airports is illegal, it also noted it receives more than 100 reports of drone sightings near airports each month.
