The FAA is investigating why an airplane was allowed to take off at Reagan National Airport as President Donald Trump’s helicopter approached on Tuesday afternoon, a situation that appears to conflict with safety procedures adopted after the January 29, 2025 midair collision near Washington, D.C. The incident occurred while Marine One departed the White House for Andrews Air Force Base and a commercial jet lifted off at the same time. FAA said preliminary findings show a “momentary loss of separation,” after which aircraft continued to separate. The White House and Marine Corps said Trump wasn’t in danger.
