FAA proposes inspections of passenger seats on hundreds of Boeing jets

The FAA has proposed inspections of passenger seats on hundreds of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft after reports that some seats may have been installed incorrectly. Regulators said the concern could create safety risks during an emergency landing or evacuation. The issue would affect more than 450 registered jets, representing over half of the country’s 737 MAX fleet. The FAA previously took full control of 737 MAX approvals in 2019 following two fatal crashes, later blamed on flawed automatic flight-control software tied to incorrect sensor data. In mid-July, the agency said Boeing could resume certifying its 737 MAX and 787 planes, while inspectors would continue overseeing factories and focusing on defects earlier in the process. Boeing said it supports the move.
