Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week

Here are five key items to watch in Canada’s business world over the coming week. WestJet flight attendants are scheduled to finish a weeklong contract ratification vote on Monday afternoon. The tentative deal reached with the Calgary-based airline after a one-day strike earlier this summer includes more than an 18% wage increase over three years, plus a new duty period premium for work performed on the ground. Canada’s major banks will also report third-quarter results: BMO and Scotiabank on Tuesday, National Bank on Wednesday, and CIBC, Royal Bank of Canada, and Toronto-Dominion Bank on Thursday. EQB Inc. will release results Wednesday after market close and hold a conference call Thursday morning, its first report since closing its PC Financial acquisition. Internationally, Finance Ministers François-Philippe Champagne and Nirmala Sitharaman meet Thursday, and Statistics Canada will publish June GDP and second-quarter figures Friday.
