Flight school pilot jumps to his death midair, leaving student to land plane

A flight school instructor’s midair jump and death in Argentina left his student to bring the aircraft down on her own, highlighting the extreme risks involved in flight training. Leandro Andrés Bertazzo, 42, was found dead after abandoning a Cessna 150 while teaching a 22-year-old student, Rosario, over Toledo in central Argentina on Saturday. Prosecutors said the incident occurred midflight, and the student reported Bertazzo told her, “carry on,” removed his headset, opened the door, and jumped with his seatbelt unfastened. Eduardo Álvarez, director of Flying Parrot Córdoba, said there were no signs Bertazzo planned to jump and that the plane was undamaged. Authorities will investigate the precise sequence of events.
