Flights across Europe hit by bomb threats that turned out to be hoaxes
Dozens of flights across Europe were disrupted Tuesday by alleged bomb threats that later proved to be hoaxes, authorities said. Airlines affected included LOT, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Ryanair. Investigations led to searches, diversions, and in one case an escort by the Italian Air Force until landing. No injuries were reported and none of the aircraft made emergency landings. A Ryanair flight from Lisbon landed at Rome’s Fiumicino after an email claimed explosives were onboard; bomb disposal experts found none. Another Ryanair service to Rome from Dublin was escorted to Fiumicino, also with no explosives found. In Poland, a LOT London-to-Warsaw flight was diverted to Modlin, then reopened after searches found nothing, while Warsaw’s Chopin Airport received information about a potentially dangerous item on an SAS flight.
