Horror moment airliners fly just feet over packed stadium in 'dangerous' stunt

Two Embraer E-Jets—an Airlink E190 and an E195—flew extremely close to the roof of Cape Town’s DHL Stadium during a rugby flyover, according to newly released footage. The jets, part of a display ahead of a match between South Africa and New Zealand on Saturday, passed within about 41 to 46 feet (12 to 14 metres) of the 55,000-capacity venue, with streamers filmed being pulled through the air currents. Social media users criticized the stunt as unnecessary and dangerous after roof-mounted video circulated. Airlink said the maneuver was a “safe flyby” planned with rehearsal, low-altitude navigation around 150 knots, and guidance and approval from the South African Civil Aviation Authority and Air Traffic Navigation Services.
