IndiGo eyes 14 A321 XLR aircraft by December 2027 to expand international operations
xCruzo Brief
IndiGo, led by CEO Willie Walsh, plans to add long-range capacity for overseas routes without shifting away from its short-haul core. The airline aims to bring 14 Airbus A321 XLR aircraft into service by December 2027, while it already operates four A321 XLRs and expects a fifth by year-end. The longer range is expected to open more international destinations. Walsh also said IndiGo will begin receiving its Airbus A350-900s in the second quarter of 2028 and emphasized it has “a lot of work” to do before starting A350 operations. At Aviation India and South Asia 2026, he pointed to the need for effective airport partnerships and expects a 600-aircraft fleet by 2030.
