Infantino Flies 57,700 Miles Across Three Nations During Expanded World Cup - OloriSuperGal
During the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, FIFA president Gianni Infantino logged about 57,700 miles across Canada, Mexico and the United States, enough to circle the Earth’s equator twice. Bloomberg cited data showing the travel occurred aboard a Gulfstream G650ER operated by Qatar Airways, with FIFA covering the costs. The distance is described as equivalent to roughly 23 flights between Los Angeles and New York and reflects the tournament’s large scale: 48 teams and a record 104 matches. Infantino is expected to attend nearly half of the games by the end of the competition and has appeared repeatedly throughout, including attending two matches on the same day in different cities on 13 occasions. One of his busiest travel days came June 26, when his aircraft covered more than 5,500 miles after watching Ivory Coast defeat Curaçao in Philadelphia. Estimates from FlyUSA’s CEO put jet fuel costs above $350,000 and emissions above 700 tons of CO2. FIFA is also considering future expansion to 64 teams.
